Medical Marijuana refers to the use of cannabis and its active compounds—THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol)—to relieve symptoms and support overall health. When used under professional supervision, these compounds interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system, helping regulate pain, mood, appetite, and sleep.
Unlike recreational use, medical cannabis is carefully prescribed to meet the specific therapeutic needs of each patient. It may be administered in various forms, such as oils, tinctures, capsules, edibles, or vaporized products, depending on your condition and preference.
How Medical Marijuana Works
Medical Marijuana works by interacting with the body’s endocannabinoid receptors, which help maintain balance in key systems like pain perception, immune response, and mood regulation. The cannabinoids in medical cannabis bind to these receptors to reduce inflammation, calm nerve activity, and restore equilibrium—providing relief for many chronic and difficult-to-treat conditions.
Conditions Medical Marijuana Can Help Treat
Medical Marijuana is approved in Florida for patients with qualifying conditions that cause chronic pain, inflammation, or neurological dysfunction. It can also help manage symptoms that haven’t responded well to conventional medications.
Common qualifying conditions include:
- Chronic pain and neuropathy
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Anxiety and depression
- Cancer-related pain or treatment side effects
- Epilepsy and seizure disorders
- Multiple sclerosis (MS) and muscle spasms
- Crohn’s disease or severe gastrointestinal conditions
- Glaucoma and appetite loss
Medical Marijuana offers an evidence-based, natural approach to symptom relief, supporting both physical and emotional well-being. It can improve daily comfort, reduce medication dependence, and help patients regain control of their health.

How do I qualify for a Medical Marijuana card in Florida?
To qualify, you must be a Florida resident diagnosed with a qualifying condition by a licensed physician. Our providers at Excellence Primary Care can evaluate your eligibility and guide you through the certification process.
What is the process for getting a Medical Marijuana recommendation?
You’ll meet with a qualified physician for a consultation, review of your medical history, and certification if eligible. Once approved, you’ll register with the Florida Medical Marijuana Use Registry to obtain your card.
How long does it take to receive my card?
After state approval, most patients receive their Medical Marijuana ID card within 2–3 weeks. You may begin purchasing products from licensed dispensaries once your card is active.
How often will I need to renew my certification?
Florida requires patients to renew their Medical Marijuana certification every 210 days (about 7 months) with a follow-up visit from a qualified physician.
